8 Inspiring Business Podcasts to Listen to in 2022

Listening to podcasts is a great way to get to know a subject and hear unique insights from people in the industry. We've compiled a list of inspiring Business podcasts for all the budding entrepreneurs!

by Bethan Courtie · 9 minutes

Business and Entrepreneurship is one of the most popular subjects students choose to study at Melio, and is a very popular undergraduate degree for students as it has the potential to open doors to a variety of careers. But how do you get started? As Business isn’t usually a subject that students are able to study before A-Level or college level, it’s a great idea to get a head-start on the subject before this time! And there is no better opportunity to learn more about it than by listening to business podcasts.

At Melio we love podcasts. In fact our sister company, Oxford Summer Courses, has recently released their own! Podcasts are a great way to not only learn more about a particular subject and widen your knowledge, but also to unwind and relax at the end of the day! Listen to a podcast when you’re going for a walk or making dinner and it works as a great way to stimulate your brain in a different way than your working or studying day.

Working Hard, Hardly Working - Grace Beverley

Oxford University alumni, Grace Beverley has quickly become one of the most successful business women of her generation. In 2020 she was named in Forbes’ “30 Under 30” list which acknowledges the world's most successful entrepreneurs under the age of 30. After founding fitness clothing brand, “Tala” and training app, “Shreddy”, Grace has taken to podcasting with her “Working Hard, Hardly Working” series.

In the podcast, Grace focuses on moving away from the traditional 9-5 work rhetoric, to get a better understanding of what ACTUALLY goes on behind the scenes and how that looks for us as individuals. Are you good at taking time off? What’s the side to your work life that no one else sees? How do you avoid burnout?

Each week, Grace and her guest open an honest dialogue about these topics, and share practical tips to help make our work and home lives more balanced, successful and fulfilling. If you’re looking for some Business inspiration from down to earth experts in a fun and light hearted discourse (be mindful that there may be the occasional naughty word), then this is the podcast for you!

Creative Rebels - David Speed and Adam Brazier

Another great podcast recommendation for Business fanatics is David Speed and Adam Brazier’s series “Creative Rebels”. This podcast, similar to “Working Hard, Hardly Working”, is for those who want to rebel against the standard 9-5 working day and have creative goals.

David shares, “I believe that there’s never been a better time to start (a business). If we had to start over tomorrow I wouldn’t be worried. It’s hard work, but if you’re good at what you do and you are prepared to work hard you will succeed”.

Episodes in this series include, “Being a Creative in 2022”, “The Meaning of Success” and “Turning Creativity into a Career”. Along with the regular schedule, Speed and Brazier occasionally have special guests on to share their business wisdom. Are you a creative person with an entrepreneurial dream? This might be the podcast that sparks the inspiration you need to start your business venture!

Brown Ambition - Mandi Woodruff and Tiffany Aliche

Released every Wednesday, “Brown Ambition” is brought to you by a personal finance expert and journalist. Brown Ambition helps you unapologetically build wealth by saving, investing and making smart career choices — on your own terms! A great feature of this podcast is that they answer listeners’ questions on the episodes. This not only gives you a chance to send in your own questions to be answered, but someone else may ask a question that is of interest to you as well.

This podcast is perfect for you if you are looking for some guidance on how to get started with your business, and helping people, especially minority women advocate for themselves. There are a number of episodes aimed to help with financial and career advice, “Levelling Up Your Business”, “Do I Need a Financial Planner?” and “Building Your Brand Identity”.

Similarly to the other business podcast, Woodruff and Aliche are often joined by guest speakers on the podcast to add their expert insight and unique perspective on business matters. If you are finding it difficult to get your feet off the ground with your business mind, this podcast might just be the series you need. The help they offer around career and financial advice (how to save money, whether to invest etc), is useful not just for those with a business brain, but also for those who just want some wisdom into how they can make their life a bit better and save some money or advocate for themselves at work.

The Agents of Change - Rich Brooks

This podcast series is a bit more specific than some of the others, with a focus more on marketing and using online visibility and marketing tools to help your business. The series goes into SEO (Search Engine Optimization), social media and mobile marketing with the goal of growing a business.

Rich Brooks recognises the importance of marketing when it comes to business, this can be useful in finding your target audience and maximising your company. Episode titles in this series include, “Adding Diversity to Your Influencer Marketing”, “How to Generate More High Quality B2B leads Online” and “Can AI Write All Your Content Marketing?”. The combination of marketing insight and special guests on this show makes it a very informative podcast to listen to if you are starting a new business by yourself, or are involved in the marketing world.

The Diary of a CEO - Steven Bartlett

Steven Bartlett is an inspirational story to many starting out in the business world. Just a few years ago, he was “a broke, university dropout, living in one of the worst parts of the country, alone, with nothing but a laptop & a dream. Fast forward a few years, I’m the 29 year old ex CEO of one of the UK’s fastest growing companies.”

This podcast series shares insights with you from guests with different backgrounds, experiences and learnings, Steven shares the secrets from the industry that you might not get anywhere else. The unscripted conversation style of this podcast makes it seem like you are sitting at a table with him, talking with a friend, rather than listening along with thousands of other listeners. (With that being said, be mindful of little ears in case of the occasional naughty word!)

This podcast is definitely one to have on your list if you are struggling with motivation to start your business journey, or simply don’t know where to start. Steven’s story shows that anyone really can be a successful entrepreneur, especially if you have key   insights into the industry.

The Goal Digger Podcast - Jenna Kutcher

The Goal Digger Podcast is a live workshop-style business and marketing podcast packed with actionable step-by-step tips to help you redefine success and chase bolder dreams. You can train with the experts on how to dig in, do the work, and tackle your biggest goals along the way.

Jenna Kutcher brings you social media strategies, productivity tips, business hacks, authentic entrepreneurship truths and inspirational stories that can help you get your business started. Jenna shares tangible, actionable advice that she used to escape the 9-5 hustle and become a self-made millionaire through photography, digital courses, affiliate marketing, and influencer campaigns. If you’re looking for insight and inspiration to follow your dreams - this is the podcast for you.

Episode titles in this series include, “Could Influencer Marketing Work for You?”, “Think You Need to Reinvent Yourself? Listen to This” and “Advice for Finding Inner Peace in Times of Chaos”. Jenna works to not only inspire and motivate you with her workshop style series, but also to support you in your day to day life - couldn’t we all use some advice for finding peace in times of chaos?

How I Built This - Guy Raz

Guy Raz dives into the stories behind some of the world's best known companies. “How I Built This” weaves a narrative journey about innovators, entrepreneurs and idealists. This series is one of the best business podcasts to listen to, in my opinion. It feels somehow like you’re listening to insight and secrets that you shouldn’t be allowed to hear. One of Guy’s best episodes is with Jason Citron, the founder of Discord. Discord has over 150 million monthly users, and so it’s amazing to be able to get tips and advice from the person who built this platform.

Have you heard of Headspace? The episode in this series where Guy sits down with Headspace founders - Andy Puddicombe and Rich Pierson - is truly inspiring. As it turns out, before Headspace was born, Andy trained as a Buddhist monk and ran a meditation clinic in London where he met Rich. The guided meditation app now has users in 190 countries and an annual revenue of over $100 million.

The Grind and Be Grateful Podcast - Marie Wold

The Grind & Be Grateful Podcast is the ultimate resource for ambitious women. Marie has unfiltered discussions about entrepreneurship, wellness, confidence, personal development, wealth building. Along with her expert guests, Marie combines the power of inspiration with actionable takeaways so that you can level up your life one episode at a time.

Marie Wold is a business mentor, so this podcast is something you should definitely bookmark if you’re looking for some inspiration from an expert. Her mantra “grind and be grateful” reflects her thought that with hard work and the right mindset, anything is possible (I’m feeling inspired already).

Episodes in this podcast that are particularly interesting include, “The Secrets to Creating a Life That You Love”, “How to Become a Total Girl Boss” and “How to Overcome Anxiety  and Own Your Vision”. If you are a woman looking to pursue your business goals, this is definitely a podcast you shouldn’t skip.
