Meet your tutor - welcome!
We'll show you how to use the Learning Platform and get you up and running. The first webinars take place in your academic subject and you'll have a tutorial with your tutor. You'll look at organisational skills and the UK admissions process, and work on a careers case study.

Get stuck in
You'll get to grips with your second topic of study in your academic subject with 3 hours of live sessions. You'll also have a live session on English for academic purposes and learn more about the UK university admissions process. You'll find out how to find reliable career information online.

Thinking about university
As well as continuing your academic study, you'll think about critical thinking skills. You'll also learn how to find the right university for you through online research, and will reflect on what you enjoy doing and how this can motivate you to plan your future career.

Thinking about the future
Move towards your future. You'll have a live teaching session with a tutor to help you think about how your learning is helping you with your career, and a live session introducing you to UK universities. You'll also deepen your academic knowledge and meet with your tutor and peers.

Going into depth with your academic subject
Your live sessions this month will be focused around your academic subject. You'll also be able to work through self-paced content on visa requirements for studying in the UK, academic writing and how our values might influence our career choice.

What's it like living in the UK? You'll discuss this in Module 6, as well as thinking about what you are good at. You'll finish your work around mastering your academic writing skills and continue to discuss and debate your academic subject with your tutor and peers.

Developing yourself for your future
Get ready for your future. This month you'll identify areas you need to work on and how to take action to move towards your future career. You'll learn how to undertake academically rigorous research and how to find the right university course in your subject to suit your interests.

Getting started on your application
How do you actually apply to a UK university? You will begin your university application and you'll get advice and guidance on how to do this. You'll learn to reference properly and how to avoid plagiarism in your university assignments. There will be a live session on researching online at university.

Personal statements
It's now time to start thinking about personal statements; how to get started, structure them, and check them. In your academic subject you will find out how to choose between all the different university courses on offer. You will learn about how to work effectively as a group or team.

Presentation skills
Learn how to stand out! You'll learn about presenting information; particularly presentations in a university context and there will be live sessions to help you with this. Your tutor will support you to write a personal statement which stands out from the crowd, tailored to your subject.

Interviews and pressure
Interviews can seem daunting but they don't have to be. This month of study looks at interviews for applications to a UK university and for job applications. You'll learn how to handle pressure to help you to cope with interviews, revision and exams, so that you shine when you need to!

University Preparation Program
How much does the program cost?
This program costs £800 to sign up for the year-long program.
If you successfully complete the program, you will have the opportunity to get back more than your initial outlay, by receiving a £1000 discount on your first year course fees at the University of Reading.
The £1000 discount only applies if you successfully complete the University Preparation Program and meet entry requirements for the University of Reading.
Who is the program for?
This program is for international (non-UK) students who have not previously studied at university. We recommend that this program is most suited to students at the end of their school studies (currently studying for A-Level or equivalent) or on a gap year, aged 16-19. The program is designed to prepare international students who might be considering studying at a UK university.
The program will help you to prepare a strong application and will offer you a guaranteed opportunity for progression to study at a UK university if you successfully complete the program.
How does the program work?
After you have signed up for the program, you will be asked to complete an assessment form which will give your tutors some background information about you and your interests subject.
This will help us to make sure that you get the most you can from the program.
The program is made up of self-paced content, which you can complete in your own time, and live webinars and tutorials. New self-paced content is released each month on to the Melio learning platform, where you can access and work through the content at a time that suits you.
Ahead of time you will receive a timetable of the live webinars and tutorials. In these sessions you can meet other students on the program and your tutors. You can ask any questions and share ideas.
What does the program cover?
During our year-long program you will study:

A career guidance module
A study skills module
A university guidance module
All of this content is centred around preparing you to apply to and study at a UK university. We will prepare you with all that you need to decide what and where to study, put together a competitive application and succeed in your first year of undergraduate study.

As well as getting a thorough preparation for applying to and studying at a UK university, you will receive:
A certificate of completion, issued by Melio and the University of Reading
A guaranteed opportunity for progression to study at the University of Reading (providing that you meet the entry requirements)
£1000 off your first year's fees
These benefits are only available to students who complete the whole programme including all live sessions. If you are unable to make one of the live sessions you can let us know about this in advance.
Can I take this program alongside my school studies?
Yes, this is a part-time program, designed specifically to fit around your school studies and other commitments. We know how busy students can be!
The self-paced content can be completed whenever you want, and the webinars and tutorials are scheduled to take place in evenings.
